Blue Point Brewery Oatmeal Stout

June 11, 2012

As I’ve said before, I like Blue Point Brewery for a few reasons. Partially obligatory, since they were the closest to where I grew up, but also I like them for their nice selection of well crafted beers. Ranging from the always drinkable Toasted Lager, to more interesting creations like the Toxic Sludge or their new White IPA. Despite the fact that I drink them often, serve their flagship at my restaurant, and just generally do like them as a brewery, I rarely get the chance to talk about them. So, finally, let’s talk about their Oatmeal Stout.

The stout pours a pitch black with a light brown head, the head isn’t particularly thick or fluffy but it is definitely present. The scent is a nice combination of roasted malts and cocoa, the solid stout combination that one comes to expect. Its mouthfeel is smooth, and almost milky, making it a particularly easy beer to drink. Tastewise, the Oatmeal Stout is a mixture of roasted malts and chocolate, with the barest hints of cream.

Blue Point’s Oatmeal Stout is definitely worthy of your attention, but it’s not going to blow your mind in any particular way. It’s the stout to grab when you’re looking for something solid, and delicious.  I wish there was more to write since Blue Point is fantastic but ultimately the beer is such a solid choice that there is nothing else to say.  It’s good, drink it.
